Habanero pepper, commonly referred to as habanero, is a type of chili known for its intense spiciness and distinctive flavor. It is one of the hottest chili peppers commonly used in cooking. In addition to its heat ranking among the Top 10 chili peppers (ranging from 100,000 to 350,000 Scoville Heat Units), habanero peppers also boast a unique fruity flavor. In comparison, traditional chili peppers typically have a heat level ranging from 100,000 to 250,000 Scoville Heat Units.
Habanero peppers, originating from the Amazon region in South America, belong to the Capsicum Chinense species. This type of chili has a remarkable history spanning across continents and centuries. An archaeological discovery in Guitarrero Cave in Peru unearthed remarkably well-preserved habanero pepper dating back to an astonishing 6500 BCE, showcasing the enduring presence of habanero in human cuisine throughout history. Starting with the habanero's origins in South America, our story extends to the Netherlands, an agricultural innovation hub. Here, agricultural engineers conducted research on habanero seeds to standardize this chili variety. The Netherlands boasts a highly developed agricultural sector with extensive experience in innovating production, investing in agribusiness, and applying scientific and technological advancements to agriculture, particularly in cultivation
